The cost of self-publishing with BookPublishersNYC.com therefore has two parts: a package price for publishing preparation and setup, and separate costs for platform fees and ISBN purchases if needed. Each package is designed for different levels of support, from Essential publishing preparation up to Premium campaigns. Authors who need only one service can also buy it individually.

Do Not Include
Our packages are comprehensive, bundling editing, design, formatting, and publishing setup into one clear quote based on word count. However, certain costs and third-party services stay outside the packages so that the starting prices remain accurate.
Not included in any package
- Platform fees and third-party charges. The author pays any direct platform fees or they are invoiced as stated in the quote.
- ISBN purchases. We guide you through acquiring your own ISBNs to retain pure, independent publisher status.
- Physical printing and shipping. Print-on-demand costs are automatically deducted from royalties by the retailer.
- Custom illustration. Complex artwork or children's book illustrations are quoted separately.
- Unlimited distribution subscriptions.
- Paid advertising management and ad spend, unless added by a separate written agreement.
Also not included in Premium Publishing
- Ongoing marketing beyond the stated 30-day marketing campaign deliverables.
- Audiobook production for lower tiers. (Audiobook setup is exclusive to Premium Publishing; Essential and Professional require it as an add-on).
- Influencer fees and guaranteed promotional placements.
- Ghostwriting or Translation. These are entirely separate services.
Platform fees, advertising spend, print costs, and shipping are never part of a service fee. Editing is included up to the specified word count limits; longer manuscripts receive custom quotes.

Publishing Packages
An advance payment is due before a package project begins. The service agreement states the exact advance, the payment milestones and the due dates, so the author knows each amount before signing.

The prices listed are starting tiers based on manuscript word count limits. The final quote depends on your exact word count, formatting complexity, distribution needs, and any optional add-ons.

Service fees are separate from platform costs
Direct platform fees, ISBN purchases (if you choose to own them independently), advertising spend, narrator fees, printing, and shipping are not part of our service fee. They are handled separately.

Final files follow payment
The author receives all final, unwatermarked files (including cover art and formatted interiors) after the agreed milestone fees are paid in full.

Changes to scope are quoted
A request beyond the agreed deliverables (such as adding an audiobook post-contract or exceeding revision limits) receives a separate quote and starts only after the author approves it in writing.

Cancellation and refunds
Because our services reserve dedicated editorial and design time, specific cancellation and refund terms are clearly stated in your individual service agreement before work begins.

Three documents protect the author's manuscript, the author's ownership of the book and the personal information the author shares with the website.
Confidentiality under the NDA
The Non-Disclosure Agreement protects the author's unpublished manuscript, plot details, book concepts, business information, account information and project files. BookPublishersNYC.com uses them only to evaluate or deliver the agreed services. It shares them only with personnel who need them for the work and are bound by confidentiality obligations, and it applies reasonable security measures to electronic files.
Ownership of your book
Authors keep ownership of their books. The agreements state that providing services does not transfer ownership of a book, and that BookPublishersNYC.com does not take a percentage of royalties for its services.

How the 250-word unit works
The number of units is the manuscript's word count divided by 250, and the rounding method is stated in the quote. An 80,000-word manuscript equals 320 units. At $3 per unit, proofreading it costs $960. Copy editing the same manuscript at $5–$7 per unit costs $1,600–$2,240.
